The notebook: lists and ideas you can find again

Some things are neither an event nor a task: the holiday packing list, gift ideas for a godchild, the details the babysitter needs. Until now they lived in a notes app, in a chat, or on a piece of paper on the fridge. Now they have a place where you find them together: the Notebook.

What this helps with

• Write lists and information into one place the whole family opens, on the web and in the app. You start typing, Famili saves as you go.
• Begin with a template for gift ideas, birthday parties, packing lists, babysitter details, school, recipes or a move, and change it into whatever you actually need.
• Tick list items off as you go. An item is just an item, with nobody assigned and no due date.
• When someone should take it on, turn the line into a task in one click. It keeps the wording, the person mentioned in it becomes responsible, and ticking either side ticks the other.
• Mention a child, a contact, an event or a task with @. You jump straight there from the note, and the contact or event shows which notes mention it.
• Pin what you reach for often, and search titles and text when a note has aged a little.
• Move finished lists to the archive. Anything deleted waits 14 days in the trash, in case you need it after all.
• Make a note private when an idea should stay a surprise. Private stays private, in the archive and the trash too.

Why this helps

Family knowledge is rarely urgent and almost always useful: a shoe size, last year's hotel, what worked at the last birthday party. Writing it down costs nothing; looking it up for the third time is what costs an evening. In the notebook it sits where the rest of your week already is.
